Because we want every patient to feel at ease from the moment they enter our practice, we educate our patients thoroughly before any treatment begins. Procedures are explained and all questions answered before the doctor begins. Informed patients are eager to complete treatment because they are able to see the importance of teatment and the consequences of delay. We ensure every patient is comfortable during any procedure. New technology and techniques help us elliminate or minimize discomfort. The specialized care from our dental team has persuaded many patients to change their fearful image of dentistry. If you are a bit nervous about your visit with us, please let us know.  We understand, and can offer you a number of ways to help you overcome your anxiety. We have testimonials of patients whose perspective of dentistry has changed so much they actually look forward to seeing us again!

What is a periodontist? Periodontists are dental specialists who have chosen to limit their practice to the treatment of periodontal disease. Dr. Pinson has completed extensive, rigorous post-doctoral education and training that focused on the gums and the other soft tissues that surround and support the teeth. Her training allows her to offer several options for treating periodontal disease, including surgical and non-surgical therapy. Periodontal disease is known as the "silent disease." It is very important to seek professional attention if any of the signs are present. Major damage can occur to the gums and surrounding bone by  disease-causing bacteria if left untreated.

A general dentist may refer you for periodontal treatment, but you may make an appoinment without being referred if you notice you are having any signs of gum disease. After a through exam, a diagnosis is made and a treatment plan is designed specifically for the individual patient. After active treatment has been completed, patients are scheduled for maintenance visits which alternate regularily between the periodontal office and your general dentist 's office. Good home care linked with regular dental visits provide a great strategy against periodontal disease. What are signs of periodontal disease? Some visual signs of periodontal disease are: bleeding gums; mobile teeth; separating teeth; persistent bad breath; receding gums; red, swollen or tender gums; a change in the way teeth fit together when biting; a change in the fit of partial dentures. Bone loss may only be detected by x-rays.  People most at risk are diabetics, smokers, family members of those with periodontal disease, persons with hormonal changes, persons with diseases that interfere with the body's immune system, and persons taking certain medications (oral contraceptives, immunosuppressants, and some heart medications).

Our mission is to give quality care to informed patients in a relaxed and at times humorous atmosphere. Our enthusiasm is contagious and our patients look forward to every visit, even if they are not thrilled about needing treatment. They may enter our door without a smile, but soon find they can relax in a dental office and even leave laughing about it. Your smile makes our job worthwhile!
